About Me


I retired from policing at the rank of Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, a senior leader and influencer in policing, with extensive operational and strategic experience. Throughout my policing career, I  championed equality issues and been involved in coaching and mentoring staff and officers.

In 2013, I was head hunted by the College of Policing to lead the National Police Integrity Programme for England and Wales, which included leading the development of the national Code of Ethics for policing. I also led the national programme ‘BME progress 2018’ to improve the representation of minority officers in policing. As lead, I was responsible for establishing a programme of initiatives and work-streams to improve the recruitment, progression and retention of officers from under-represented groups, a key priority within the College of Policing.

What am I doing now?

I am a self-employed consultant actively involved in coaching, mentoring and leadership development in the public and private sector. I have worked with forces, the College of Policing’s senior women’s Realising Potential Programme and the development and delivering of a senior leadership day for the Lebanese Police. I worked with the University College London where I designed and delivered a session on ethical policing at the Hyderabad Police College in India.

I have worked with Barnardos Charity over the past few years, designing and delivering a reciprocal mentoring programme with People and Performance. This programme received a Training Journal award in 2017.

I am currently working with Greater Manchester Police. I designed and   developed a positive action Developing Diverse Leaders programme, which since 2017, has seen positive results for BAME and female candidates seeking promotion. I has also led the ‘Engage Inform & Inspire’ event in GMP and Northumbria Police Youth BME Conference, to engage BAME females and young men to encourage them to consider policing as a career.

I am  a qualified ILM L7 coach and qualified trainer.

My team of Associates

Peter Spindler – A retired MPS Commander with 5 years National Crime Squad experience and in 2013 appointed Assistant Inspector of Constabulary. An Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Criminal Justice at the University of Portsmouth and is a senior policing and safeguarding advisor to various organisations in the faith, voluntary and higher education sectors. Actively involved in delivering critical incident training at the executive level both nationally and internationally. In 2007, he received the Special Recognition Award from the president of BAWP and went on to win the president’s award from the International Association of Women in Police for his work in developing women in the workplace. Coached and mentored many officers and staff, establishing training sessions prior to assessment processes to improve their opportunities. He was co-facilitator for the successful GMP 2018 Developing Diverse Leaders Programme.

Kashmiro Capes-Bhatti – An Educational Quality Specialist with 25 years’ experience in further education, public and private sectors. Extensive experience of quality assurance, processes and procedures which include writing Self-Assessment Reports, Quality Improvement Plans, Bid writing, awarding organisation approvals for qualification related programmes. Specialises in developing leadership & management, executive coaching & mentoring programmes for in-house delivery for private and public organisations and companies. The last 10 years’ experience extends to carrying out internal reviews which include writing reports, observations of teaching, learning and assessment in line with Ofsted requirements and the Common Inspection Framework. Other experience extends to in-depth knowledge of apprenticeships Levy and Non-Levy. Additionally, fully conversant with Equality Diversity and Inclusion, Safeguarding, Prevent, Health & Safety again in line with educational requirements. Holds a BA in Education, Certificate in Education, FDA Leadership & Management, L7 Executive Coaching & Mentoring, Assessor, Verifier and External Verifier qualifications.

Dr Mary Schollum – A criminologist with 28 years’ experience in policing and criminal justice, including New Zealand Police, the National Policing Improvement Agency, the College of Policing and the Ministry of Justice in the United Kingdom. She has a Master’s and PhD from the University of Cambridge. She developed the national decision-making model (NDM) and drafted the Code of Ethics. She has extensive experience of research, assessing organisational compliance with statutory obligations, reviewing key areas of business, preparing business cases, government budget bids, strategic planning, and policy advice, Since May 2018 a member of an international steering committee overseeing the development of a “universal protocol on investigative interviewing and associated safeguards” to be presented to the United Nations General Assembly in 2020.

Dr Brian Chappell – A police leader with significant operational, strategic and capability building gained through national and international engagement with stakeholders. His practitioner knowledge and expertise is enhanced through credible academic underpinning, awarded his doctorate in 2015. Since retirement, he has been leading the MSc in Crime Science, Investigations and Intelligence, and the MSc in Policing, Policy and Leadership at the University of Portsmouth, Institute of Criminal Justice Studies (ICJS), as well as other policing units. This includes the responsibility for delivery the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing (CKP) at the University in his capacity as an accredited tutor with the College of Policing. He has successfully tutored and mentored a diverse range of over 400 policing students, undertaking academic study, of all ranks up to chief officer, across a range of ICJS courses at under graduate, post graduate and doctoral level.

Theresa Breen – A recently retired chief officer from counter terrorism who has worked extensively to combat serious and organised crime, child abuse and extremism. She has worked at the local, regional, and national levels in policing and has a strong background in intelligence, studying for a doctorate on the subject. A member of a senior women’s network in London, she has been actively supporting, guiding and mentoring more junior colleagues. She has been a role model for many women aspiring to promotion and has delivered a number of training sessions to support candidates and also delivers motivational lectures such as at the GMP women’s day in 2018 for superintendent candidates.
